Chater’s is an independent kitchen and bakery in the centre of Saffron Walden. We run from morning through to evening. Coffee, bakery, lunch and dinner, with natural wine and drinks running through it alongside our on site distillery, Vault Aperitivo.
It is a busy, evolving environment. We care about standards, consistency, and hospitality. We also care about the people who make it happen.

Front Of House

We are looking for someone who can run a section, look after guests properly, and stay composed when it matters.

This is not just a service role. It is about creating the experience people come back for.

You will be working across an all day operation, from coffee and bakery through to lunch and dinner service. You will need to be present, reliable, and available in the evenings and weekends when the restaurant is at its best.

You will be part of a team that takes pride in what we do and supports each other to do it well.

Sous Chef

We are looking for a sous chef to join the kitchen and support the head chef in leading the team.

We cook with the seasons, work with proper ingredients, and expect consistency every day. This role is about leading service, maintaining standards, and helping shape the kitchen as we continue to grow.

You will need to be organised, calm under pressure, and confident managing a team through a busy service.

This is a kitchen where attention to detail matters, and where you can have a real input into how things are done.

Bakery Assistant

We are looking for a part time bakery assistant to support our early morning operation.
The bakery is at the centre of Chater’s. It sets the tone for the day. Fresh pastries, bread on the counter, and a rhythm that runs through the whole business.
This is a hands on role. Helping with prep, setting the counter, and keeping everything clean, organised, and ready for service.
You will need to be reliable, positive, and comfortable with early starts. Experience helps, but attitude matters more.
